Tottenham will be looking to take a step closer to the knockout stage of the Europa League when they host Ludogorets on Thursday night.
Group J is looking tight at the midway point of the first phase of the competition, with three teams - Spurs, LASK and Antwerp - all locked on six points. Ludogorets have lost all three of their matches to date and need to win in north London this week to have any chance of securing a place in the round of 32, which will begin after Christmas.
Spurs were excellent in Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Manchester City, a result that leaves them top of the Premier League after nine matches. Jose Mourinho appears to have found a winning formula, with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg adding bite to the midfield and Harry Kane and Son Heung-min thriving up top. Kane has been particularly brilliant so far this season, although all three of those players could be rested for the visit of Ludogorets, particularly as Spurs have a London derby against Chelsea to come this weekend.
Harry Winks could return to the matchday squad after missing out against Manchester City, but Erik Lamela, Japhet Tanganga and Matt Doherty will play no part on Thursday. Toby Alderweireld is also a doubt after sustaining an abductor injury at the weekend, but Gareth Bale is likely to start as part of Mourinho’s front three. Carlos Vinicius, Ben Davies, Giovani Lo Celso, Joe Hart and Lucas Moura will also hope for opportunities from the first whistle.
Ludogorets have been competitive in all of their Europa League games to date, and they have scored in every fixture too. However, the concession of nine goals has prevented them collecting a single point thus far, and they must tighten up if they are to take anything from Thursday’s encounter.
