Villa aim to seal Distin deal
Aston Villa have reportedly made a bid for Portsmouth defender Sylvain Distin.
The 31-year-old centre-back has made more than 70 league appearances since arriving from Manchester City in 2007, helping the south coast club achieve FA Cup glory a year later.
However, the Frenchman has just 12 month's remaining on his current contract, leading to speculation linking him with a move away from Fratton Park.
Villa, Everton, Liverpool and Sunderland have all been tipped to sign the stopper this summer.
And following Monday night's 3-1 win at Anfield against Liverpool, Villa boss Martin O'Neill is believed to have tabled a £6 million offer in an attempt to bolster his back-line in the Midlands.
Distin has only recently taken on the captain’s armband at Pompey following the summer departure of Sol Campbell, who is set to seal a surprise move to League 2 Notts County.
However, Villa are expected to face competition for Distin's signature from David Moyes' Everton, who are on the hunt for a new stopper with Joleon Lescott due to depart for Manchester City.
