World Cup 2022: Is Lionel Messi injured and will he miss the final?
Argentina captain and talisman Messi was clearly struggling throughout his nation's semi-final clash with Croatia
Whether or not Lionel Messi will finally cement his status as the greatest player of all time by winning the World Cup 2022 has been the dominant storyline at Qatar.
The Argentina talisman has been one of the standout stars of the tournament, and netted his fifth goal of the competition from the penalty spot to put his side ahead against Croatia. With two assists to his name already, that strike put him level with Kylian Mbappe at the top of the golden boot standings.
But yet another debate simmered away in the background of the Croatia game: Is Lionel Messi seriously injured? Despite being declared fit enough to start the game, Messi spent much of the first half clutching his left hamstring. He was seen rubbing it again shortly after his goal.

After appearing for the second half, Messi was clearly in even more pain. He could be seen limping at times and continued to fuss over the problem area. Nevertheless, the No.10 refused to let the issue get the better of him, and kept pressing and driving with the ball despite being in pain.
Some fans expressed serious concern for the star on social media, wondering if we would be denied a Messi appearance in the final, should Argentina make it, from the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner. Others, however, praised Messi's resilience and desire to help his team navigate their way past Croatia.
Either way, football fans will be collectively holding their breath before this Sunday's final, should Argentina be involved.
