It's every managers' dream; your team are struggling and in desperate need for something to go their way. You turn to the bench, give one of your subs the nod - soon after his introduction, he grabs you a goal and the fans hail you a tactical genius!
Unfortunately, not all of your decisions will elicit the same response (especially from the fans), but that's not to say your substitutions shouldn't be as calculated as your original plans.
As someone who has made the transition into management while still donning his boots, Iain Dowie is aware how crucial the introduction of fresh impetus (and legs) can be.
