After seeing his career and even life threatened by tuberculosis while on loan at Dinamo Moscow in 2005, has developed into one of the game's top centre-halves. The Brazil international's reputation grew at Fluminense before his rise to global prominence continued at AC Milan. That persuaded Paris St Germain to splash out a reported £34.8million for him in 2012, captaining the club until his departure to Chelsea in the summer of 2020.
